We're always available to consult on the disposition of your classic bicycle.
Sometimes the best approach is a respray and a modern parts package, such as our popular Campagnolo Ergo upgrade. Sometimes the sheer aesthetic intrinsic value is overwhelmingly greater with a few hours of paint cleanup . In one memorable case, we talked our customer out of a respray repeatedly for a couple of years. Our mechanics lovingly buffed out the rough spots and shined the chrome, blended a bit of touchup paint here and there and just generally cared for it as you would a niece who shows up for dinner with unwashed hands. In spite of many small cleanups, usually free when the bike was here for something else, our customer rode in one day with a tacky red respray sold by another shop. We all shed a silent tear looking at the now-defaced 1966 Bianchi which will never again show those well-worn chromed lugs carrying the self-centering headcups. We missed her proud original decals - she danced in the sunlight with those nicked badges of a hundred club rides and the patina of innumerable Sunday mornings since some Italian girl laid the transfers. So we redouble our efforts to keep the classics classic. We wipe fresh oil on the dip-enamel Raleighs that we sold new. We carefully trim the red casings of Motobecane Grand Jubilees and Grand Records when using a new piece would save time. But plain black casing would blunt the view into its soul. We rebend the Christophe toeclips. We take a moment to oil the Zeus parts. We press a small dent out of a SuperChampion #58. We straighten a mudguard on a Peugeot VX40. And all that quickly when all we're billing is a tire change.
When you want it absoultely perfect, we'll give your bike a thorough and diligent rebuild. All parts off and each cleaned, rebuilt and polished with our German Simichrome polish. The frame and fork get checked for alignment and then scrubbed clean and detailed. We buff out the rust stains where clamps have attacked the paint. We blend in color where bare metal shows. And once it is all sharp, we buff to a high shine with our Race Glaze, a local product dsigned for show cars. That's only $-ask- and includes new bearings and rebuilding of headset, crank bearing and both hubs. Of course we clean all the equipment before finishing the rebuild.
Sometimes paint is appropriate and we spray here for about $-call- to start. Waterford, our local frame shop, does exceptional paint, both wet and powder, from $-ask-.
And classic parts , while beautiful, certainly can't perform to modern Campagnolo standards, so we offer our various complete ensembles and gear train upgrade kits
.In short, we love bicycles, even yours!
