click mobile version Bicycle Shoe Cleats for Toeclip Pedals at Yellow Jersey Many of us prefer toeclips for a number of reasons- even in this new century. One good application is winter- which is pretty formidable here in Wisconsin. Riding with unmutilated fully enclosed neoprene shoe covers is dry and just toasty warm compared to cutting holes in the bottom for clipless cleats. And not only vintage bicycles have toeclips. The bicycle industry in general pretends we don't exist! New shoes no longer include toeclip fittings. Even finding a good selection of toeclip sizes is difficult out there in the cold world beyond Yellow Jersey. If you prefer toeclips, we can help. Of course we have a selection of toeclips, toestraps and related gear on our Toeclip Page Here are some of the accoutrements you'll want to complete that setup:

Nearly all the shoes we sold for many years included cleats for toeclip pedals. For some reason that's changed, and today no major shoe supplier even offers toeclip cleats.
We make these neat little nylon cleats to fit standard Look drilled soles. We've found that two screws are sufficient, since this cleat doesn't pull away at the front as would a clipless pedal cleat. 100% American made from virgin nylon with USA metric allen screws.

We support leather-soled shoe cleats like these TA road units. We have inserts to change your leather shoes from nails to screws. That hardware also allows us to add threaded holes in the sole of any shoe, leather or nylon, to change or add cleat format. For example, our employee bought a beautiful pair of wingtips (maybe $200 new, but just $10 at a thrift store) to which we added threaded inserts for a mountain bike cleat and a shoemaker bonded in some tread from a Vibram soled workboot. End result? A formal dress on/off road pair of the most comfortable shoes a man could ever own! Threaded inserts are so much neater, but mostly they're simpler to make small changes to cleat angle. If you have kept your nail-on cleat format, and you are near to Madison, we have a couple of steel shoemakers' lasts and an assortment of cleat nails. That job is pretty difficult to do at home. Real Italian shoemakers aren't on every corner nowadays either. No charge for use of the tools.
Besides these, we have lots more cross products and we can fabricate custom cyclo-cross cleat spikes to fit just about any shoe format. .
