On Yoshi Konno, 3Rensho Bicycles and Cyclone, Ltd. at Kashiwa and Abiko, Chiba, Japan Part 2
text below from "Bill" at Signature Cycles
Cherubim was founded in 1965 by Hitoshi Konno after the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. The games brought European race bikes to Japan, and naturally Italian racers brought Italian bikes, beautiful and practical works of traditional Italian craftsmen. Given the shared dedication to tradition and craftsmanship, it is not surprising that Italian frame making had an impact on Japanese frame making. Yoshi Konno, one of Hitoshi’s brothers, got a hold of Cinellis used in the Tokyo Olympics and unbrazed them in order to study them in detail, founding two brands, Cyclone and 3Rensho. 3Rensho (pronounced ‘San Rensho’) stands for three victories. The three victories refers to a rare accomplishment by a Japanese Keirin racer winning on three consecutive days of racing (qualifiers, semi-finals, and finals). In the picture accompanying this, the
Takizawa blue/yellow color bike is my 3Rensho. The youngest brother, Shin Konno, founded Miyuki cycles. Send an email
